Wasantha Dukgannarala

Lyricist

Popularly known as Dukaa, is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and stage drama as well as a lyricist, television host, author and media personality. He has contributed to more than 300 popular songs ranges from classical pop, R&B, Blues and Hip Hop genre. In 1996, he wrote the popular song Man Sinhayata Bayay Nangiye for Senanayake Weraliyadde. In 2000, he composed popular hit Ran Kurahan Mala for BnS. And the song Mal Pan Podak written for BnS became the song of the millennial youth. Then he wrote the song Nethra. After that Dushyanth Weeraman, Iraj Weeraratne, Chinthi and Ranindu come into the field while working. Dushyanth’s song Pana Senehasa was also very popular. Then he came with the song Ahankara Nagare for Ranidu Lankage. It became the most popular song on the index.

Also, he made the song Sokoari for newcomer Chinthi. He was reprimanded for writing the song Sokari which later became a social issue. The song Sokari is the only song that was censored with only one word. The word ‘Kansa’ (meaning “Cannabis”) was censored and published in the media. And then, Duka wrote the first ringing tone song in Sri Lanka, Ahankara Nagare. The he wrote the song Ravum Kade for Gayantha Perera and song Hanthane for Ashanti de Alwis. For Romesh and Lakshan, he wrote the song Ma Desa Neth Nopiya Balapoo. Meanwhile, Govi Geethaya and Api Wenuwen Api songs even won awards.

Iraj Weeraratne

Iraj Weerarratne is a Sri Lankan born musician or rather the maestro of hip hop music in the island. At the tender age of 16 years, he won the best keyboardist title in Sri Lanka awarded by Guildhall music school and came rolling in to the local music scene when he collaborated with Ranidu Lankage and Yauwana Wigneswaran and formed Zealots when he was schooling in Royal College. They also released their first original Love you so in 1998 and received airplay on local radio stations.
After this Iraj teamed up with Ruki and Urban Sound (Krishan, Nas T and Gajan Capitol G) to work on another original called SRI LANKA 2030, this was a song foreseeing the future of the nation. After a short break he joined hands with Krishan (Nas T) and Ruki for the hit single Roots. This was the song that revolutionized local music as it crossed borders and received airplay on all continents. This was featured on the UK ASIAN charts on BBC radio 1 at no 18 hosted by Asian DJs Bobby Friction and Nihal.
This was the beginning of a new era of Sri Lankan hip-hop & urban music as Iraj together with Krishan and other members of the band introduced this new trend in Asian hip hop as they blended Sri Lanka beats, Sinhalese and Tamil raps.

Sahan Ranwala

was born on July 3, 1978 in Nugegoda as the second of the family with two siblings. He started education at Ashoka Vidyalaya, Maradana. After passing grade 5 scholarship examination, he went to Ananda College. At school, Sahan was the Chairman of Drama Society and the Treasurer of Broadcasting Unit. He did A/L from commerce stream and selected to the University of Colombo.  His elder brother Chirantha is a television announcer and also an actor.

 

His father Lionel Ranwala was an icon in Sri Lanka music industry who performed folk music in Sri Lanka. Lionel is the founder of Ranwala Balakaya.  Sahan is a graduate from Drama and Theater at University of Kelaniya. He also has a Diploma in Journalism at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and degree from Sri Lanka Law College

Visharad Kottawa Iniyage Saman Thusitha Lenin Kumara (Born 1 May 1980), popularly as Saman Lenin, is a Sri Lankan vocalist, musician, and ethno-musicologist. He is popular in Sri Lanka as an exponent of Sri Lankan folk music, and incorporates traditional folk tunes into his music. Despite a relatively short career in the music industry thus far, he has sung over 200 songs, and is considered by many to be one of the most talented folk artists in Sri Lanka

Then he started doing new performances in his own recording studio Musical career 2002-2004 Rawum Kade, Ruwina, Malee and sudupata mal songs became very popular on Sri Lankan Radio channels He made a big change by releasing his song Rawum Kade in 2004. then in 2006 his first album was released. He has composed songs for many popular singers At present he is engaged in performance activities in his studios in Colombo and Mawathagama.

Navarathna Gamage’s professional career in music began as a‘Nurthi Gee’ singer has come to the full circle with him emerging as a most sought after musician for creations in different media. As he is popular now known in the field of music has thus covered all media in composing music for stage dramas, tele-dramas, films, documentaries, commercials, radio jingles, audio CDs and conducted orchestra for concerts etc. In over two decades he has reached the top in the field of music enthralling millions of fans. Navarathna Gamage’s musical guru was Maestro B. Victor Perera, under whom he had his professional training. He had the good fortune to associate with the modern guru of Sinhala theater; Professor Sarachchandra and be a member of his troupe as an actor and a singer in ‘Maname’, ‘Sinhabahu’ and many other productions. He had short stints of training under leading musical personalities like Pandith Amaradewa and Dr. Premasiri Kemadasa. Presently he has music directed over 120 tele-dramas and over 75 stage dramas, composed over 2500 songs and music directed over 30 films. He released a CD album ‘Sada Eliyen Dothak’ together with his own musical concert of his song compositions in 2004. He composed and directed spiritual music project named ‘Dhamma’ which was published by Studio Fontana in Czech Republic. In 2013, he directed and produced a musical symphonic theatre ‘Panamaura Kunchanada’ which had over 120 cast. He has many publications to his credit and shares his knowledge and experiences with the younger generation by undertaking teaching assignments at aesthetic educational institution – Sri Palee Campus of University of Colombo and Bellwood Music Institute of the National Youth Council. Nilar N. Cassim

A reputed and prominent Sinhala announcer, media personality, lyricist, author, translator, poet and lecturer, who has immensely contributed towards the arts and culture of Sri Lanka throughout a 25 years of time. Well-known as the one and only Sri Lankan Muslim who holds a Sinhala Special Degree (From the University of Sri Jayawardenepura) and a Masters in Sinhala (from the University of Kelaniya), his role in the sphere of literature and lyric writing is significant and widely acclaimed by both local and foreign scholars and masses. He wrote his first song Samanalun Rodak for Malini Bulathsinghala and to date he has written around 700 lyrics to many senior as well as modern vocalists such as Bhathiya and Santhush, Centigrades and Ravi Hansz. Nilar has written lyrics for many recent Sinhala films and his latest is Ahasin Eha for the film Adaraniya Kathawak. He has contributed to the Sri Lankan literature by producing three books on lyrics, two classical books and two children’s books and three translations. Ridi Reyak and Handunagaththoth Oba Ma are some of the popular shows that he has written the scripts for. Nilar won many awards and accolades for this literary work of him, which includes Bunka Award 2007. Nilar was a visiting lecturer at Sripali Mandapaya of the Colombo University and was also a member of the State Music Panel and the State Literary Panel. Once he was a Commissioner of State Languages Commission as well. He functioned as the Director of the Mass Communication Course at Sri Lanka Television Training Institute (SLTTI) and also worked as a News Editor for SLRC. Currently he works as an Executive Officer and an Assistant Director – Publicity and Media of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).
